The passing of Frank Dawson...

December 2, 2021 - It is with great sadness and loss that I share the passing of my dear friend and musical partner Frank Dawson. Frank was a one of a kind human being and musician. Kind, funny, innocent as a child. We came together when I met my wife Jan, Frank's cousin. Over the course of time he shared his musical creations; and how he never really had a chance to hear them properly produced. I was so happy to fill that role, and over the course of many years and 3 albums, with 2 more on the way, we grew closer and closer. He was so happy to hear his music produced, and I felt so grateful that I could make someone this happy. Frank was/is a joyful soul.

Frank could really talk when he got going. Sometimes I had a 15 minute break and thought "I'll give Frank a call." An hour or so later we would still be laughing our hearts out. We'd talk about different musicians and their hits. He knew so much about the music of his day. We'd talk about moments in our lives, during which I would learn the background to his songs, many of which are about unrequited love, or rather unrealized love. He was a hopeless romantic he would say, and I would respond that he was a hopeful romantic. He touched many lives in his travels and created long-lasting relationships.

The way we worked was interesting. He would record guitar and vocals on a basic cassette recorder and send that to me. I'd digitize them and import them into my recording gear and add several other instruments and effects. Frank marveled at my talent and called me Maestro. I marveled at Frank's joy!

Life without Frank will be lonelier, less creative, less fulfilling; unless I can emulate Frank's joy and childlike nature. If I can do that, it will be as if he's right here with me at all times. I'm sure he'll still call, and we'll still be laughing together for hours on end. Rest in Joy, surrounded by your loved ones who went before you. You have been a dear friend and creative partner. Love, Kevin
